Something on your “to-do list” that never gets done.
On my to-do list, there’s one thing that keeps showing up no matter how many times I rewrite it. It’s never highlighted, never circled, and never marked as urgent, but it’s always there, quietly waiting for me to take it seriously.
“Start working from home.”
I’ve written it in planners, in my phone notes, and even on random pieces of paper that I later forget about. Sometimes I try to make it sound more professional by changing it to things like “build online income,” “grow my blog,” or “be more consistent.” But no matter how I word it, it always means the same thing. I want a life where I can work for myself and build something that truly belongs to me.
I often imagine what that life would look like. I picture myself waking up without rushing, making my coffee, opening my laptop, and easing into my work at my own pace. In my mind, it feels peaceful, focused, and freeing.
But then real life happens.
I get tired. I get distracted. I get overwhelmed. Some days I feel motivated and full of ideas. Other days, I don’t even know where to begin. And when I don’t know where to start, I usually don’t start at all.
That’s when I realized something.
Maybe part of the reason this goal keeps sitting on my to-do list is because I haven’t fully set myself up for it.
It’s hard to build something from home when you don’t feel organized, inspired, or comfortable in your space. It’s hard to stay consistent when your environment doesn’t support your goals.
So lately, I’ve been trying to change that—starting small.

Creating a Space That Makes Me Want to Work
One of the first things I’m focusing on is my workspace. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it does need to feel intentional.
A simple desk organizer helps keep my notebooks, pens, and planner in one place so I’m not constantly searching for things. A laptop stand helps with posture and makes my setup feel more “official.” And a comfortable desk chair makes a bigger difference than I ever expected when I’m sitting for long periods of time.
When my space feels put together, I feel more motivated to show up!
Staying Organized & Focused
Another thing that holds me back sometimes is feeling scattered. My thoughts are everywhere, and my to-do list feels overwhelming.
That’s why I’ve started using a daily planner and a habit tracker. Writing things down helps me see my goals clearly instead of letting them live in my head. A whiteboard calendar on the wall has also helped me visualize my week and stay accountable.
Small tools like these remind me that my dreams deserve structure!
Finding Motivation in the Little Things
Working toward a big goal can feel lonely at times, especially when you’re doing it on your own. So, I’ve learned how important it is to surround myself with little reminders of why I started.
An inspirational desk sign, a devotional journal, or even a simple mug that makes me smile can shift my mindset. A pair of blue-light blocking glasses helps when I’m working late, and a cozy blanket nearby makes long writing sessions feel less overwhelming.
It’s the little comforts that make me want to keep going!
Investing in Myself, One Step at a Time
For a long time, I thought I needed everything figured out before I could really start. The perfect plan. The perfect routine. The perfect setup.
But now I’m realizing that progress doesn’t come from perfection.
It comes from preparation.
Buying small, helpful tools isn’t about spending money. It’s about investing in the version of myself I’m trying to become. It’s about saying, “My goals matter enough for me to take them seriously.”
And every time I choose something that supports my growth, I’m choosing myself.
I may not have crossed “start working from home” off my list yet.
But I’m closer than I was before.
I’m building the space.
I’m building the habits.
I’m building the confidence.
And one day soon, that line won’t just be a goal.
It will be my reality!
